Part of the great urban project known as Erculean Addition, the area of urban expansion created in 1492 by the enlargement of the walled city limits of Ferrara and celebrated as an example of Renaissance urban planning. The palace started to be built in 1498 and Duke Ercole I d'Este and it now host the Botanical Garden of the University of Ferrara.
